Lab value study guides

  • Potassium

Normal potassium is 3.5 to 5.1 mEq/L. What nurses check for low and high potassium, why it matters with digoxin and furosemide, and a practice question.

  • Sodium

Normal sodium is 136 to 145 mEq/L. Signs of hyponatremia and hypernatremia, the fluid and neuro checks nurses make, and a practice question.

  • PT and INR

Normal PT is 11 to 14 seconds and INR 0.9 to 1.2. Warfarin INR targets from the label, bleeding checks, PT/INR vs aPTT, and a practice question.

  • Arterial blood gases

ABG normal values: pH 7.35 to 7.45, PaCO2 35 to 45 mm Hg, HCO3 22 to 26 mEq/L. Read pH first, then ROME, with a practice question.
